GOREVILLE SCHOOLS RECEIVES SAFE TO SCHOOL GRANT

Goreville Community Unit School District #1 was awarded $210,000 by the Illinois Department of Transportation's Safe Routes to School program to enhance their infrastructure to enable and encourage local students to walk and bike to school and school activities.  The Illinois Safe Routes to School program provides schools and community groups with funding to build safer routes to schools and activity areas, to provide programs helping students become safer walkers and cyclists, and to encourage children to get the exercise they need to lead happy, healthy lives.  Goreville Schools and the Village of Goreville have teamed up to use this funding to repair existing sidewalk areas and connect the main artery of sidewalks to a new sidewalk that provides a safe route to and from the school and the City Park.  This funding will be added to the grant Goreville Schools received last year of approximately $36,000 for crosswalks and warning lights.

Congratulations Goreville Schools and the Goreville community!!!
