2011 BLACKCATS WIN 3RD IN STATE!

SchoolCenter Picture

SchoolCenter Picture

The Blackcats, who just one year ago ended the year as the IHSA State Runner-Up losing in the Championship Game, lost the first game of the State series 2-1 to Lanark-Eastland but bounced back in a big way to beat Tremont 10-9 to claim 3rd in State!  After winning their first ever IHSA Sectional and Supersectional Titles in 2010, the Cats were out to prove that they were not going out without a fight in their 2nd consecutive appearance at the State Tournament.  Tremont held the lead most of the game until Blackcat Senior Lee Sopczak used a walk-off base hit to left to plate the winning run in the bottom of the seventh!  Goreville proved yet again why the community and school are so special by bringing twice the number of fans than Tremont (15 miles from Peoria) to support the Cats at the O'Brien Field Baseball Complex in East Peoria. The Village even chartered a bus leaving at 4 AM to bring loyal Blackcat fans to the tournament.  The Blackcats arrived back in town to a community parade down Broadway and a reception in their honor. Several Blackcat were at the school to celebrate ANOTHER STATE TROPHY!!!  A very special thanks goes out to all who travelled to Peoria to support the Blackcats.  It meant a great deal to the team to see so many Blackcat fans make the effort to travel across the state to show their support.  Also, another special thanks to the Goreville Gazette for their tribute to the Baseball and Softball teams for their successful seasons.  We appreciate your support!

Congratulations Blackcats!!!

WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!!!
