GOREVILLE SCHOOLS HAS A NEW WEBSITE!

Goreville Schools is excited to announce that it has launched a brand new website! The new website is still at www.gorevilleschools.com where you can now experience new features like a real-time calendar of events, the most recent school Facebook and Twitter posts, major announcements, the Goreville High School weather station information that is housed in our Biology Lab, and all of the most recent Blackcat news! You can still check your child's grades or contact your child's teacher through the website and all of this is now available in a new "responsive" format that automatically conforms to the size of the device you are using to view it.  So, if you are still viewing this page go to www.gorevilleschools.com to view the new website!


MARCHING BLACKCATS WIN "GRAND CHAMPION" AT MT. VERNON PARADE FOR 3RD STRAIGHT YEAR!


For the third year in a row, the Goreville High School Marching Blackcats won 1st Place in their high school class and Grand Champion overall (10 total bands) at the Mt. Vernon Fall Fest Parade! In addition, as Grand Champion, they were awarded a $1,500 cash prize for the program!  The Marching Blackcats had a GREAT YEAR winning 1st place in ALL of their parades and competitions!

STATE CHAMPS!


For the first time in school history, the Jr. Lady Blackcats Basketball Team are STATE CHAMPIONS and finish the season UNDEFEATED at 27-0! The Jr. Lady Cats defeated Gallatin County, Nashville, and Jonesboro to complete their championship run in the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association State Tournament!  To see the article in the Goreville Gazette, click here.

LADY BLACKCATS "SWEET 16" IN STATE!


The Goreville Lady Blackcats defeated Cairo to claim the 2016 IHSA Regional Championship and made it to the "Sweet 16" by defeating Gallatin County in the IHSA Sectionals!  They fell to Woodlawn to end a great season.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!  We are PROUD of you!!!


BLACKCATS ARE REGIONAL CHAMPIONS!


The Goreville Blackcats defeated Gallatin County 88-69 to claim the 2016 IHSA Regional Championship!  They now play in the IHSA Sectionals at Gallatin County.

MASSEY AND VAUGHN NAMED HOMECOMING QUEEN AND KING!


Congratulations to Alexis Massey and Jared Vaughn for being named the 2016 Goreville Homecoming Queen and King!


BLACKCATS TAKE 3RD AT WEST FRANKFORT


Congratulations to the Goreville Blackcats for their 3rd Place finish at the West Frankfort Mid-Winter Classic and for Brant Glidewell for being named All-Tournament! 


 BLACKCATS TAKE 3RD AT SESSER

Congratulations to the Blackcats for their 3rd Place win in  the Sesser-Valier 16 Team Holiday Tournament and to Braden Webb for being named All-Tournament! The Blackcats finished 3-1 defeating Odin, Vienna, and Waltonville while falling to Christopher in the semifinals.


 BLACKCAT CHEERLEADERS PARTICIPATE AS "ALL-AMERICANS"!


Congratulations to Blackcat Cheerleaders Sarah McLain, Bailey Edwards, Jaylynn Ashford, and Montana Albright for being selected and participating as All-American Cheerleaders! Sarah performed in the London New Year's Day Parade while Bailey, Jaylynn, and Montana performed at the Citrus Bowl Parade in Orlando, Florida!


 


GOREVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AWARDED STATE "GOLD CIRCLE OF QUALITY" FOR 2ND STRAIGHT YEAR!


Congratulations to Goreville Elementary School and the Goreville Early Learning Center for being named "Gold Circle of Quality" by the Illinois State Board of Education!  The top award recognized the efforts of the Pre-Kindergarten Program's "instructional excellence" for the 2014-2015 school year.

GOREVILLE INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT


The 4th annual Goreville Invitational Tournament came to a close and the Benton Rangers defeated the Blackcats to take the Championship.  Congratulations to Blackcats Tanner Dunn, Brant Glidewell, and Braden Webb for being namend All-Tournament! A special thanks goes out to all of the volunteers who helped with the tournament and to all of our sponsors.


 GOREVILLE NAMED 2015 SAM'S CLUB "SCHOOL OF THE YEAR"!


Goreville Schools has been named the 2015 “School of the Year” by the area Sam’s Club for "their outstanding dedication to student achievement by utilizing the integration of their new technology programs – particularly the new 1:1 Technology Initiative providing Chromebooks to all of their high school students and utilizing mobile learning labs in the elementary and junior high"!  All teachers will receive a $25 gift card to purchase supplies for their classroom.  To view the article in the Goreville Gazette, click here.


COACH HELTON NAMED TO THE BASKETBALL COACHES HALL-OF-FAME!


Congratulations to Goreville Lady Blackcats Basketball Coach Mike Helton for being inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall-of-Fame! Coach Helton has been at Goreville for 21 years where he has a 406-189 career record. He has guided the Lady Cats to 12 Conference Championships, 7 Regional Titles and 4 straight "Elite 8" finishes. He joins former Blackcat Coaches Ned Ray and Jerry Qualls as well as former Blackcat player Greg Cruse in the IBCA Hall-of-Fame. He will be honored at a banquet in Bloomington, IL in the spring.

   GOREVILLE SCHOOLS LAUNCHES 1:1 TECHNOLOGY INITIATIVE!

3RD IN STATE!     

The 2015 Goreville Jr. Blackcats defeated Smithton then fell to Albion before defeating Gallatin County to take 3rd Place in State! This makes the 5th straight year that the Goreville Jr. Blackcats have placed in state including the 2013 State Championship!  The Jr. Lady Blackcats defeated Aviston then fell to Trico before defeating Nashville to take 3rd Place in State! This makes the 3rd straight year that the Jr. Lady Cats have placed in state including last year's State Championship!

GOREVILLE FFA NAMED TOP 10 IN AMERICA!

The Goreville High School FFA Chapter was named the Section 25 Champion, State Champion in Community Development and was ranked 3rd overall in the State of Illinois out of 408 schools and has now been named "Top 10 in the Nation" - the only school from Illinois! The chapter competed in the Program of Activities also known as the "National Chapter Award" sponsored through the National FFA Organization. The National Chapter Award is made up of three divisions: Student Development, Chapter Development, and Community Development. A State Winner is named in each division and the overall point leader is named the Illinois Banker's Plaque winner which carries the title of the number one chapter in the state. The chapter was recognized at the State FFA Convention in Champaign, IL. One Section Winner is chosen from each of the 25 Sections and then the top five in the state are ranked and placed. The chapter also won the State Cooperative Award and the State Heritage Award for the first time in school history!

GOREVILLE SCHOOLS NAMED TECHNOLOGY "SHOWCASE SCHOOL"

 

Goreville Elementary School and Goreville High School have been notified by SMART Technologies based out of Calgary, Canada, that they have been chosen as a "2012 Showcase School"!  The award is based on a competitive application process where school districts from around the world describe their commitments to adding technology and engaged learning in classrooms.  In 2010 and 2011, Goreville Schools added state-of-the-art whiteboard interactivity technology to their Pre-K, Elementary, Middle School, and High School as well as extensive training for their teachers on using technology to enhance learning.  The school was recently recognized by the Chicago affiliate of SMART Technologies when they traveled to Goreville in April to tour the facility and host a SMART Experience event for the region.  The event featured Goreville School's certified "SMART Exemplary Teachers" Rachel Jenkins and Melissa Robertson as well as Kindergarten Teacher Dana Harris and High School Business Teacher Diane Kirby where they provided inservice to parents and community members as well as teachers and administrators from school districts across Southern Illinois on the effective use of technology in their classrooms.  Due to the award, Goreville Schools will now receive technology training and professional development scholarships; exposure in global SMART publications and marketing materials; a profile in the SMART Showcase Schools web directory; a "Showcase School" display for their school facility; access to low-interest loans for technology purchases; and special opportunities to test new technology products from SMART as they are developed.  Goreville joins other Showcase schools from around the world including schools from Finland, Germany, Sweden, and the United Kingdom and their profiles can be found at www.smarttech.com/showcaseschools.  You can also view the article on the SMART Experience Event hosted by Goreville Schools in the Goreville Gazette here.
