Congratulations to the 5th-8th grade School Spelling Bee Champions! These 4 students will advance to the Regional competition on Dec. 1 at Shawnee College. The winners pictured are: Brenni Jo Tripp, Jalynn Ashford, Josh Belcher, and Connor Seavers. In addition to advancing to the next level, the students also won a trophy and lunch with principal Mrs. Bigler.

GOREVILLE 3RD GRADER PARTICIPATES IN PAGEANT

Goreville Elementary School 3rd Grader Mackenzie Parker participated in the Marion Cultural and Civic Center's 1st Annual Marion Main Street Pageant, sponsored by Tahitian Tan, on October 1. The Marion Main Street Pageant marks the beginning of what organizers hope to be an annual event for the city of Marion. In all, there were a total of 17 contestants in the pageant in 4 categories.

Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar was brought to life on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009 by the High School Beta Students. Their performance was entertaining and the props made by Pre-K thru 3rd grade students and crafty high schoolers were big hits. Thanks to all who helped Read for the Record!

The PTA gave away prizes to the Head Start-2nd grade students who attended the performance.  Bryce, in Mrs. Harris' kindergarten class, was the grand prize winner of the oversized caterpillar.  Other winners included Evan from Head Start, Daisy from Pre-K, Emma in Kindergarten, Connor in 1st grade, and Landon in 2nd grade.  Congratulations to all!


JR. LADY CATS SIC TOURNAMENT CHAMPS!
 
 
For a record seventh straight year, the Goreville Jr. High Lady Blackcats softball team has won the Southern Illini Softball Tournament Championship!  The Jr. Lady Cats defeated Anna 11-3 to claim the title.

GOREVILLE AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM

The Goreville After-School Program is set to begin in November.  With the help of High School Beta Club Members (Honors Club), your child can receive help on their homework, help studying for tests, learning study skills, and much more every week.  For more information and/or to enroll your child in the program, contact the school at 995-2142.

GOREVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NAMED "CLASS ACT" BY CHANNEL 3 
 
Goreville Elementary School was recently highlighted on WSIL TV Channel 3 as one of the region's "Class Acts" in its efforts to promote reading by using an interactive play featuring the children's book "Corduroy"!  The Goreville PTA and Media Center worked together to put on the production for students in Pre-K through 3rd Grade.  Several Goreville High School Beta Club members played roles in the production.  To see the news clip, just click the picture above.

JR. LADY CATS DEFEATED BY TRICO AT STATE TOURNAMENT 

 
 
Just one week after winning the SIC Tournament for the seventh straight year , the Goreville Jr. High Lady Blackcats softball team won the SIJHSAA Regional Tournament Championship; also for the seventh straight year!  The Jr. Lady Cats advanced to the SIJHSAA State Tournament held in Centralia, IL but were defeated by Trico in the first round.   
 

Congratulations Jr. Lady Cats on a GREAT YEAR!!!  We are proud of you!!! 


GOREVILLE 5TH GRADER WINS "SOUTHERN ILLINOIS KIDS GOT TALENT"

Goreville Elementary School 5th Grader Christine Bryant competed in the Southern Illinois Kids Got Talent contest Sept 19th at the Marion Cultural and Civic Center.  She sang  a solo from the Oscar winning show, Oliver - Where is Love.  She won first place in her age category and received $100 and a trophy.  All proceeds from the show went to assist the Williamson County Child Advocacy Center - an agency that supports children of neglect and sexual/physical abuse.  

 

Congratulations Christine!!!  We are proud of you!!! 

 


JR. LADY CATS WIN INVITATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Goreville Jr High School Lady Blackcats won the Giant City Invitational Tournament by defeating the host team Giant City Lady Giants 36-28!  Goreville beat Unity Point 58-23 and Lick Creek in the semi-final game 54-26 to put them in the championship game.  Leading scorers were: Haley Darnell, 16 pts; Marbia Martin, 11 pts; and Kayla Webb, 9 pts.

"ALL KIDS" INSURANCE PROGRAM

The All Kids program is a program started in 2006 that offers Illinois' uninsured children comprehensive health care that includes doctor's visits, hospital stays, prescription drugs, vision care, dental care and medical devices like eyeglasses and asthma inhalers.
